A set from KHS digital archives of a 1911 expedition made by Charles Price Conigrave and party mostly to the west side of Cambridge Gulf. 100 years ago in the East Kimberley.
These photographs were in the photo collection of artist Elizabeth Durack and appear here thanks to the Clancy and Durack families.
In 1921 the WA and SA government astronomers determined the WA/NT border on the ground using radio time signals, which then, was new technology.
Also see the KHS presentation on this recent research into the 1921 WA/NT Border Determinations that were happening exactly 90 years ago is presented in the form of a 1921 Western Mail news article about this expedition to determine the WA/NT border on the ground. The article has been corrected by KHS on the National Library of Australia's “Trove” site, then re-formatted on the KHS website with photographs from the (new) KHS – 1921 CM Hambidge (late, former SA Surveyor General) Family Collection, interwoven with excerpts from the diary of MP Durack, thanks to Kevin Markey and Patsy Millett. View the innovative interpretation of this history of the 1921 WA/NT Border Determinations from http://www.kununurra.org.au/khs/research/1921-wa-nt-border-determinations
Photographs from the Elizabeth Durack collection show Governor of Western Australia visited the newly completed obelisk that marks the WA/NT border on the ground.

1944 survey for the Ord River Main Dam. Dam Site No.1 was eventually rejected as the preferred site circa 1960, for the No. 2 dam site, where the Ord River main dam was built between 1968 and 1972 and now holds back Lake Argyle.
