May is "Museum Month" here at KHS - Starting on the afternoon of Sunday May 1st 2011, KHS will be OPEN for May Day, the "Blue Shield" International day for "Disaster Preparedness" for all cultural institutions - The President will be sharing knowledge gained on recent Museums Australia and Lotterywest sponsored, ECU courses at WA Museum facilities and Edith Cowan University, on "Preventive Conservation" of archives (2nd course was on "Collection Documentation"). All members in Kununurra are encouraged to attend and visitors will be welcome, we will check archives for any impending tropical disasters (Read more about the "Blue Shield" below).

To celebrate this anniversary year we have two open evenings during May for the "Ord Valley Muster." In fact on Thursday May 12th the KHS Museum Open Night - will be the "Opening Event for the Ord Valley Muster" remaining open from 10.30am until 8pm or later. We will be showcasing recently digitised images thanks to a grant from the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley. KHS will be open both Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm on both weekends of the Ord Valley Muster.

Museum Week 2011 is 15-22 May, 2011

This year’s International Museum Day , held on May 18, 2011 has the theme of “Museum and Memory” - KHS has been seeking memories of people here 50 years ago and will show some results of this. KHS is also requesting all associations, clubs groups, businesses and individuals to provide a short history for preservation in KHS archives as a snapshot 50 years "down the track."

The second KHS Open Night on the Muster event calendar will be on Thursday May 19th - Join in to see some fascinating history.
